Abortion has been a widely debated subject across the globe in some western European countries being legalized. Unsafe abortions being carried out in Kenya is a leading cause of maternal and mortality. In Kenya abortion is a crime unless under very special circumstances like saving the life of the mother. Nonetheless people still commit the crime through various ways that are harmful both to the mother and the unborn child and may even result to death. The need for secrecy to avoid being condemned, the law, and the perceived high cost of safer abortion, have been known to be the reason why so many of our young women die during this process as they seek help from community midwives, drug sellers and untrained helpers at lower costs. Some of the common methods that have been used include drinking tea that has a high concentration of tealeaves, drinking a lot of undiluted juice and in some cases even drinking a mixture of washing detergent like ‘omo’ has been said to do the trick. The purpose of this study is to determine the perception of abortion among social work students in Maasai Mara University and find out their take on how they think abortion affects people especially the mother afterwards. The general objective of this study is to determine the perception of social work students in Maasai Mara University concerning the topic abortion, while the specific objective of the study will be to find out what social, economic, cultural, and psychological factors that influence the perception or view of the students towards abortion. The theories that will be used are the ethical theories which include the teleological theory and the deontological theory according to the Kantian perspective. In order to achieve the objectives of this study, the study will apply the non-probability sampling method in which sampling will be used. The data of the study will be collected through the closed-ended questionnaires, and through interviews and group discussion and interactions. The study will apply both qualitative and quantitative data analysis method to analyze the collected questions. The data collected from the respondents will be analyzed by use of descriptive statistics comprising of tables graphs and pie charts. Therefore this study is conducted to determine the perception of students in Maasai Mara University on abortion and how the think it impacts those who carry it out. (1)
Access to resources is the opportunity to make use of a resource for a larger gain and acquiring or gaining possession over the resource. Resources are an important factor in advancing peoples’ autonomy and rights. Assessment of access to and control of resources has been a fundamental tool of gender analysis over the past years and due to gendered division of labour, patriarchal cultural norms and laws and, women in all their diversity have been denied access to resources such as education, health services, credit, land and technologies . The purpose of the study was to determine factors influencing women access and acquisition of resources in Mbeere South Sub County, Embu County. The specific objectives of the study were to find out effect of cultural factors, social factors, influence of perception, attitude and judgment and examine legal requirements necessary for resource access and allocation of resources in Mbeere South Sub County, Embu County. The study adopted the Gender and Development theory from which the conceptual framework was developed. A descriptive research design was adopted for this study. The target population comprised of 650 women participating in women groups. A sample size of 65 women was selected for the study using simple random sampling method. An open ended questionnaire was then used as the data collection instrument for the study. The questionnaire was pilot tested to test for validity and reliability. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics. The study established an association between social cultural factors, legal factors, education and perception and attitudes about women and women access and control of resources. Based on the findings the study concluded that Culture and education have the highest influence in women access and control of resources. The study also established a significant relationship between legal factors, perceptions and attitudes and access and acquisition of resources. The study concluded that women’s access and acquisition of resources is influenced by social cultural factors, education level, legal factors and perceptions and attitudes about women. Conclusions were drawn that the findings of the study support the theory of Gender and Development. It recommends that, legal institutions be strengthened to assist women in their quest for access and acquiring resources. Campaigns and education on the needs to empower women should be done to have a common knowledge on the benefits of the same. The government and the community at large will benefit since the benefits of this initiatives will trickle down to the overall economy. (1)

Cheating in examination refers to illegal act of using unauthorized means to acquire undeserved marks or grade. It has posed a challenge in the world and many African countries. In Kenya education system has been under pressure because of cheating in examination. The major cause of concern was the increasing rate of cheating at all levels that is primary, secondary and university which have influenced evaluation, assessment and promotions to the next level. In this case as technology became more advanced with the use of computers and mobile phones, the level of cheating in examination has risen in the country. The purpose of the study was to determine the impacts of cheating in examination in Maasai Mara University. The secondary purpose was to involve all stakeholders such as students, lecturers and officials from the examination department with the aim of coming up the solution to the problem. The general objective of the study was to determine impacts of cheating in examination at Maasai Mara University. Specific objectives were to identify the factors leading to cheating in university examination, to assess the impact of cheating on students, on the university itself and to find out whether cheating could affect assessment of students pursuing different courses in the institution. The target population included students and lecturers from various schools in the institution and officials from examination department. The target population was selected using simple random sampling in the case of the students and purposive sampling for the lecturers and officials from examination departments. The study took place at Maasai Mara university main campus Narok. The study used case study research design to provide insight into particular issues of cheating in examination. The study used qualitative and quantitative approaches. Research instruments used included the questionnaires, interviews and documents analysis to collect useful data per objectives. Tables were used to present data. The expectation of the study was to gather accurate information that would give insight to cheating in university examination with the aim of curbing the vice. Drug abuse among students results into general indiscipline in institutions of learning. The Causes and Remedies of Indiscipline in Secondary Schools has attributed to unrest in schools in Kenya. The use of drugs continually may lead to addiction, a condition in which the abusers must take drugs in order to feel normal whether they like it or not. The purpose of this study was to find out effects of drug and substance abuse among secondary school students in Narok south district, in Narok County. The study was guided by the following objectives; to determine the drugs that are commonly abused by students in public secondary schools in Narok South District, establish the causes of drug abuse among students in public secondary schools in Narok South District, determine the extent in which students are affected by drug abuse in public secondary schools in Narok South District and to establish the prevention measures of drug abuse among students in public secondary schools in Narok South District . The study utilized descriptive survey design, where the sample of 10% of the total population was selected and a sample size of respondents was obtained for the study. Quantitative research approaches were used to collect information. Stratified random sampling was used to select the sample that represented the whole population. Questionnaires and observation check list were used since they make easier to collect data from the respondents. Data was collected and arranged by coding and editing into manageable proportions and entered into the computer by use of Microsoft Excel spread sheet computer programs. The presentation of the study findings was in form of tables, bar graphs and figures where necessary. In summary of the findings, it was found that majority of respondents indicated as the majority that many youths in Secondary Schools in Narok South District take drugs. The majority showed that alcohol was the main type of drug abused. The study concluded that there are many causes of drug abuse among the students in secondary schools in Narok South District which include; family influence, peer, media and low self-esteem. It was clear, that majority of the respondents were aware about the effects of drug and substance abuse among secondary school students in Narok South District where majority agreed that these effects range from poor memory and reduced reasoning capacity, health-related problems including mental health poor performance in school, sports and other activities. The study recommended that School administrators can incorporate in their strategies to curb Drug and Substance Abuse among the students. They should also enforce disciplinary action on students abusing drugs. (1)
