dc.description.abstract The police duty in effective crime prevention is very important to the lives of individuals, coordination and good cohesion of the members of the public in every given society. Police crime prevention effort is, on the other hand, often faced by a number of challenges that it is essential to come up with ways to deal with them. This is because the Kisumu city and Kenyan security, peace and order are highly dependent on the effective crime prevention. This study sought to identify the factors that affect police effectiveness in crime prevention in Kisumu City. The researcher framed down the objectives as (1) To establish whether police performance has led to the prevention of crime in Kisumu city. (2) To establish the various factors or challenges affecting the police in their effectiveness efforts to crime prevention in Kisumu city and the underlying solutions the challenges. (3) To establish the perception of residents in Kisumu city towards the police force, the police perception of the public and the collaboration of the public and the police in efforts to prevent crime and control it`s rising rate in the city. The researcher then framed for the research objectives which linked the input of police performance and public relation which were part of the independent variables and the consequent outcome of them as the dependent variable. The researcher used descriptive research design and combined it with purposeful sampling technique to determine the sample population to gather information. The sample size of 68 out of 580 people was identified as research respondents. Primary data was collected through well-structured open-ended and closed-ended questionnaires administered to the respondents. Qualitative data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics with the help of statistical package for social science and presented through tables. Qualitative data obtained from the respondents was analyzed using content analysis and presented in narrative form and observation. The researcher after data analysis gave summary of findings and conclusions, recommendations to the Kisumu Police department team. en_US
