Abstract:
The quality of employee performance in an organization is very important to the success of the organization. A study was carried out to establish the effects of job training on employee performance in commercial banks in Kenya (a case of co-operative bank Narok branch). The study had three objectives to achieve: To establish how seminars enhance employee performance in bank, to determine how job rotation affects employee performance in commercial banks in Kenya and the last objective was to determine how job rotation affects employee performance in commercial banks in Kenya. The population of the study was 30 employees of cooperative bank in Narok town. This study adopted a descriptive survey. Primary data was collected by administering a semi-structured questionnaire. Quantitative data collected was analyzed by the use of descriptive statistics using SPSS (Version 20) and presented through percentages and displayed it on the tables. The information was displayed by use of bar charts, graphs and pie charts and in prose-form. Thus every bank in Kenya must seek to improve the quality of its workforce. One way of achieving this is through training of employees working in a bank. The importance of training can only be appreciated with a clear understanding of its direct impact on employee performance. An improvement in employee performance also leads to an overall improvement in the bank’s performance. It is in this respect that Cooperative Bank was analyzed to establish a correlation between its training programs and the success of the bank in the long run. Data was derived through questionnaires distributed to selected employees working within the bank as well as its human resource and finance managers. The results revealed that indeed Coop Bank provides training for its employees and most of it is in-house training and that most employees are aware of the existence of these programs. The main objective of these training programs is to improve both individual and organization performance. Every employee, no matter their level of educational background is expected to benefit from these programs. The bank is therefore advised to ensure that the programs are consistently evaluated to ensure compatibility within the banking industry.
