dc.description.abstract The main aim of this research is to find out how employee motivation affects performance of an organization. The ineffectiveness of the current motivation strategies will be studied and be replaced with more effective methods to ensure that a conducive environment is provided in order to motivate employees. The research method is a survey questionnaire, which will be administered to three departments of the organization. The sample for this study consists of 50 employees from the accounts, marketing and procurement departments. Result from the study revealed that all employees in this study felt that workplace relation and social recognition was the most important motivating factor. In addition, promotion and career development and feedback was found to be a more important motivational factor and lastly positive relationship between employees and management contributed to the motivation of the employees. The factors of motivation that are going to be dealt with in this study are promotion & growth, financial reward, decision involvement, work conditions, feedback on how the employees run their duties, workplace relations and social recognition. In the questionnaire this factors will be ranked. The interpretation and analysis of the data revealed that the questioned workers are motivated by factors that are related to work place relation and social recognition and work condition. In addition, the result indicate that the managers’ perception of employee motivation which is highly inaccurate, which is similar with previous surveys conducted by Kovach (1987). Thus, the finding indicates that the motivational strategy that is currently applied within MTK is quit sufficient in terms of its ability to improve the employee’s motivation and therefore the quality of the performance. However, the management should strive to see that the employees are highly motivated the organization should design their rules, policies and organization structure that gives space to the employee to work well and practice them on their task fulfillment and achievement.
