dc.description.abstract The study was endeavoured to analyse the effectiveness of the Board of Management (BOM) in the management of curriculum programmes and instructional materials for public secondary schools in Kenya. As the BOM has an ample role to play in the management of curriculum programmes and instruction materials. The study was conducted in the Machakos Central Division with the help of descriptive survey design. The study targeted the principals, teachers, BOM members and the area education officers (AEO) in the Machakos Central Division. Responses were accumulated from a sample of 45 respondents comprising 20 board members and the AEO, 6 principals, and 18 teachers, selected through convenience sampling technique. The questionnaire and interview schedule guide were facilitated for response collection. The study revealed that the BOM was effective in the provision of instructional materials and they collaborated with the principal to supervise curriculum implementation. However, the BOM stumbled in ensuring adequate teachers and laboratory equipment as necessitated. The study is significant as the findings would cater valuable insight to all the stakeholders: policy makers, parents, administration, students, the community, teachers, Ministry of Education among others. en_US
