Abstract:
Male circumcision (MC), one of the oldest surgical procedures, has been practiced worldwide from time immemorial. To-date, the procedure is being undertaken for various reasons including religious, cultural, social and medical. Recent studies from Africa have indicated that male circumcision is highly protective of HIV. This research project aimed at evaluating the challenges faced by circumcised adult males during healing period. The study was conducted in Kangemi region Nariobi district. The section of the region specifically targeted 80 circumcised adult male who were undergoing healing process. From the findings, respondents numerous problems they have experienced. amongst these problems was excessive pain, excessive bleeding, swelling of the penis, irritation of the glans and difficulties in observing and maintaining hygiene required which were cited as medical related problems .service providers, who are the surgeons, should educate those who want to undergo circumcision or have gone circumcision on how to deal with the problems they are likely to experience during wound healing period. In addition, the service providers should provide medications or educate patients on how to control erection during the wound healing period. This will reduce the cases of early sex resumption. The patients should also observe proper hygiene to avoid other infections which may infect the wound .enough medications should also be provided to the patients to help in pain relief. Data was collected using questionnaires in accordance with the study objectives and the data collected from the questionnaires were recorded, coded, summarized and analyzed by use of MS Excel (2010) and SPSS (statistical package for social sciences).the study responses were analyzed and reported using descriptive statistics (use of frequency, means and standard deviation).the research findings are presented in form of tables, charts and graphs for easier understanding.
