Developing a web-based institutional repository for Maasai Mara University

Abstract

In this document, i have precisely discussed how to develop a web-based institutional digital library repository management system. The system compliance with the standards of universal system development life cycle. It lays on an architectural design ofProgreSQL database ,Java Langauge,XHTML web design and Ubuntu Linux operating system in order to offer a long time system stability.The system is used for a long term preservation of digital materials and multimedia materials, it will be accessed through the Maasai Mara University Local Area Network(LAN) ,wireless and later online when the University Library develops its on independent website. The systems will allow students access E-books in PDF formats, research materials, Exam Past Papers, E-joumals,newspapers and other materials the university subscribes to through the University LAN and Wireless. Staffs will too be able to share materials from different departments, access the newspaper and other official materials. Lectures will deposit their teaching materials (lecture notes)and course outlines for their specific students. Anyone else within the university can enjoy the access of the system since it an Open Acess Repository(OAR).
