dc.description.abstract The library services in the Kenya National Libraries-Narok for a long period of time have been manual. the library has been experiencing a lot of shortcomings and challenges. The current system stores information in the file cabinets and this makes it time consuming to retrieve a record from the previously stored records. This makes it more difficult for the librarian to update student's records in the archives. In this document the development of library management system is discussed. The system aims at enabling efficient and effective carrying out various library activities like registration of members, registration of a new book, issuance of resources, returning a resource and checking availability of resources. Chapter one contains the background of the study which is a brief introduction on the study that was undertaken, the problem statement which gives current problem on the ground which has created the need for coming up with a new system to curb those problems, justification which states why the new system will bring positive changes, the scope which states the extend that study will cover. Chapter two has the literature review- the research that has been done on the same topic by other people in the previous times. Chapter three has methodology with subsections which include; life cycle models. requirements, requirements elicitation. Chapter four has the system analysis and requirements modeling. It analyses the current system-ho~ the current system work, the procedure of activities in the current system, the proposed system stating how it works and also the procedure of activities in this system and flow charts for both systems diagrammatically showing the flow of activities in each system. Chapter five is the system design which has the introduction, design goals, data flow diagrams, data collection and user interface design. The relationships between tables Chapter six gives the implementation and testing process and the codes that were used in developing the system Chapter seven has the limitations of the project, the achievements, the conclusion and recommendation. en_US
