<description>SELECTED DETERMINANTS OF ECONOMIC GROWTH: A CASE OF KENYA
DENISE KIBIWOT SILAKWA
ABSTRACT&#13;
The purpose of this study was to investigate factors that influence economic growth in Kenya. This study was guided by such objectives as to determine how inflation, unemployment and population growth influence growth of the economy of Kenya. The study adopted both quantitative and qualitative research approaches to explain the interplay of both endogenous and exogenous variables to bring about an effect on the economic growth of Kenya. The area of study is the whole of Kenya, a country with the fastest growing economy in East Africa. Kenya is a democratic country with stable political situation characterised by a reasonable democratic space and strong opposition. The country is enjoying the rule of a new constitution that was promulgated in 2010. Devolution has led to the 47 county governments led by governors. The country has enjoyed more than 53 years of independence. The population of this country is projected to be approximately 40 million people with the young population constituting the biggest population. Kenya’s economy grew steadily until 2007 when the country experienced a devastating post polls violence which really shook the economy. The economy has fully recovered and experiencing a steady growth. Kenya is rated a lower middle income economy. Vices like corruption, unemployment, tribalism, inequality, poor infrastructure, high illiteracy level, wanting healthcare, inflation and insecurity are pulling the country down, almost to its knees. Secondary data that was used was drawn from statistical abstracts, economic surveys and previously done researches. Analysis was conducted with the help of ordinary least square (OLS) estimator. The findings revealed that the variables under investigation influence growth of the economy in either direction, either in combination or isolation. As such, the government can work towards reducing run-away inflation, reduce unemployment and stabilise the economic situation

<description>THE ROLE OF DEVOLUTION ON ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN KENYA. A CASE OF NAKURU EAST SUB-COUNTY
KAMAU K NIMROD
ABSTRACT:&#13;
Kenya has devolved funds to grass root level with the aim of bringing services and development&#13;
close to its citizens in view of vision 2030. However a report by the controller and Auditor&#13;
General in Kenya gazette 2010 uncovered massive misappropriation of Constituency&#13;
Development Funds in Constituencies. Inspite of this, other constituencies were reported as&#13;
posting remarkable performance. The purpose of this study was to examine the role of&#13;
devolution on economic development. A descriptive survey design was used. A total of 98&#13;
respondents were selected through the census approach. A pre-tested semi-structured&#13;
questionnaire and an interview schedule were used to collect data. Statistical techniques&#13;
employed in data analysis included Frequencies and means and paired t-test. Results were&#13;
considered significant at α-level. The Projects financed by devolution funds are: roads,&#13;
Bursaries, Health centers, schools and agriculture. Majority of the respondents reported that&#13;
people participate in the CDF funded projects. Of these reported that the participation level is&#13;
average. The difference between the mean score on the situation before and after the&#13;
introduction of the CDF was statistically significant. The findings from the study show there&#13;
was significant improvement in the situation after the introduction of devolution. In conclusion,&#13;
the results of the study show that devolution plays an important role in social economic aspects&#13;
of the lives of the locals and calls for policy makers to improve on management of the devolved&#13;
funds.

<description>THE IMPACT OF INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION IN MAASAI MARA UNIVERSITY AMONG THE INSTITUTION STAFF.
JAEL KIPKIRUI
1.1 Background of the study&#13;
Culture refers to the arts, customs, lifestyles, background and habits that characterize a society&#13;
while communication is the sharing and interpreting meaning and information using symbols and&#13;
behavior. Intercultural communication therefore involves understanding symbols, values and behaviors&#13;
since they vary across cultures and how they impact communication and interactions&#13;
among individuals. There is need for intercultural understanding in organizations especially with&#13;
the increased globalization as it makes intercultural communication an imperative for many individuals&#13;
and the organization itself. This understanding is to enable an individual to become competent&#13;
communicator in cross-cultural communication situation as communication is the backbone&#13;
of every organization.&#13;
This thesis reports the findings through the study to establish the impact of intercultural communication&#13;
in Maasai Mara University, how it has affected the functioning of the organization and&#13;
how its success can be employed by other organizations.&#13;
As a result of academics and employment in Maasai Mara University, there is increased number&#13;
of staff comprising of people from different cultures. Due to the increasing globalization and&#13;
cross-cultural interaction increases the importance of the realization of the successful intercultural&#13;
cooperation and interactions among the university staff members. In this context, the identification&#13;
of friction points and the improvement of the potentials of intercultural communication&#13;
in Maasai Mara University is an important project that will enable to establish the positive and&#13;
negative impacts of intercultural communication. On the basis of the research study the author&#13;
shows that the formation of a culture that allows compromise can be considered as a possible&#13;
success factor. The recognition and acknowledgment of cultural differences is an important prerequisite&#13;
for the academic and cooperation success of Maasai Mara University. The author believes&#13;
that establishing the impact of the intercultural (or the cultural society) communication influences&#13;
the understanding of the management systems and communications in the university&#13;
and has a significant impact on the university's success through the intercultural communication&#13;
of the staffs
