Abstract:
The number of people with diabetes is increasing due to population growth, aging, urbanization among other factors. This condition has posed a huge health care burden as it is associated with high mortality and morbidity rates. Increasing in the prevalence of obesity and physical inactivity added to a misconception that diabetes is a disease for urban areas while rural areas are also concerned, this is the motivation of the study where we sought to know which factors predisposes and individual to diabetes. In this study, a binary logistic model was used to fit factors like age, gender, marital status, and alcohol consumption as risk factors for diabetes. This study is of great importance in the society as it gives information on whether age, gender, alcohol consumption and marital status are associated with an individual being diagnosed with diabetes. From the results obtained, it was evident that age and alcohol consumption had the greatest contribution towards an individual contracting diabetes as the aged and alcohol consumers had a high risk of the diabetes infection
