Women constitute over 50 percent of Kenya’s population but the majority of them are among the illiterate and poor in the country. A number are still affected by customary laws and practices which have for so long perpetuated their oppression. Throughout Kenya’s history women have been subjugated to consistent rights abuse while shouldering an overwhelming among other responsibilities. Women continue to be educated at and inferior rate to their counterparts, increasing their reliance upon men .they are also limited from owning acquiring and controlling property throughout Kenya regardless of social class religion or ethnic group.
The research aimed to establish the role of county government on empowering women if laws enacted by the national government are being implemented at county level ,correlation between empowered women and improved development in Soin constituency , assess the contribution of county government in helping women access credit and business facilities in Soin Constituency .
The descriptive research design is adopted with focus on qualitative characteristics of the role of county government on women empowerment in Kericho county soin constituency with the use of questionnaires data about variables or subjects as they are found in social system or society were obtained.
To a great extent, the respondents strongly agree that the county government is playing a role in empowering women .education is a necessary tool for women empowerment also women strongly agree that development of policies and helping women access credit facilities are necessary tools for empowerment to an extent the respondents agree that credit facilities and nominations of women to political position do help in women empowerment. |
